2022 Indiana TESOL Conference

Theme: The Power of Story

This year’s conference invites us to consider and reflect upon the power of story. The stories that you and your students have to share matter. They have the power to offer new perspectives and foster care and connection with one another. You are invited to submit your teaching stories – words of courage, inspiration, and hope as well as responses to frustration, fatigue, and overwhelm. What are the stories worth remembering about teaching, schools, communities, yourselves, and your students?

Keynote Speaker: Nahid Sharifi

An advocate for women’s rights in Afghanistan, Nahid Sharifi has taught university-level English since 2011. She has been a voice for breaking taboos about gender and being a role model for getting women more involved and supporting them to understand their important role in the future of Afghanistan. She left Afghanistan in 2021 when the Afghan government fell and US forces withdrew. Growing up in a refugee family in Iran and experiencing displacement to the United States, Nahid will share the power of her story and offer her reflections on teaching and learning through extraordinary change.
