Advocacy as Learning, Relearning, and Unlearning

Dr. Teemant is Professor of Language Education in the School of Education at Indiana University Indianapolis. She is the Primary Investigator of Project CELEBRATE, a National Professional Development project funded by the Office of English Language Acquisition under the U.S. Department of Education. She has led seven such grants over twenty years, focusing on improving teacher quality for multilingual English learners through ENL certification, pedagogical coaching, school change leadership teams scaling up pedagogical innovation, and reciprocal family, community, and school engagement in pursuit of equity. Her scholarship focuses on innovative program development, urban ENL teacher preparation, and pedagogical coaching using the Enduring Principles of Learning. Her work draws on and advances sociocultural and critical perspectives to benefit multilingual learners and all learners. Her work has appeared in many journals, including: TESOL Quarterly, TESOL Journal, Teaching and Teacher Education, Language and Education, Language Teaching Research, and The Journal of Language, Identity, and Education

She brings insight from 27 years of experience teaching and advocating for multilingual learners and their teachers.
